Can anyone save the once proud Oakland Raiders organization? Not Allen Davis

The Oakland Raiders were one of the teams of the 70's (Pittburgh and Dallas are the two) led by coach John Madden. Kids today know Madden from his popular video game and don't remember that he led the Raiders their first Super Bowl in 1976. Since then the Raiders have been in disarray led by the capricious Al Davis.

Al Davis took over the Raiders underhandedly, when former managing partner Wayne Valley was out of the country on business. Davis had the "takeover" papers drawn up and had the other partners on his side, ultimately taking over the organization.

Davis started his career as a offensive line coach with the then Los Angeles Chargers for two years. In 1963, he took over the Oakland Raiders and led the team to a 10-4 record. Also, winning the coach of the year.

Over the years since John Madden retired, Davis has hired 10 coaches (including two stints by Art Shell) with the premise the coach would run the vertical passing that he likes so much.

The Raiders haven't had a winning record since 2002, after losing the Super Bowl to the Jon Gruden led Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This year if JaMarcus Russell can play like a number one overall player the Raiders can creep up on you.

Davis just needs to bequeathed the daily operations to a more modern day football executive so the team can compete with the upper echelon teams in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers is Truth!

Aaron Rodgers had a great season in 2008. People in Northern Wisconsin didn't want lose Brett Favre a year ago, but this kid from Northern California is going to get better. Thanks to Favre passing the torch to Rodgers.

Rodgers grew in Chico, California and excelled at Pleasant Valley high school, but didn't get many offers from Division 1 schools. Declined a scholarship from then Illinois coach Ron Turner to play in Champaign. Staying local to play for Butte College, there he was discovered by California coach Jeff Tedford.

Transfering to California in 2003, he was the starter after 5th game and never lost the position. Rodgers led the Golden Bears to an 8-6 record in his first year, including a win over Matt Leinart led USC.

In 2004 season his last in Berkeley, expectations were high for both Rodgers with multiple pre-season awards. The team finished 11-2 but were snubbed by Texas for a Rose Bowl berth.

Entering the 2005 draft, experts were amazed with his arm strength and field awareness. Some say the San Francisco 49ers (who were drafting first) should of picked Rodgers, but selected Alex Smith (flop) out of Utah. Rodgers would fall down to 24th selection by the Green Bay Packers.

In Green Bay it was thought that Favre was a year away from retirement. Ultimately, he was tutored by one of the greatest quarterbacks that has ever played. With that lesson we witness flashes of brilllance last season (08-09) 28 TD's and only 14 INT.

Overall if Rodgers and the Pack can get in rhythm with their running game (Ryan Grant) and the defense holds up, this team can reach the Super Bowl!

Who's going to take a chance on Michael Vick?

When Mike Vick came into the NFL in 2001, we as fans were absolutely amazed by his athleticism and will to win. He should be signed by some team that can used a proven winner on the football field. Don't throw him into the fire, but use him in any capacity that can help your football team win a few games. He hasn't played since 2006, but he is only 29 years old with alot left to give. From a player standpoint he is better than most of the quarterbacks that played in the NFL in 2008. He never was Steve Young accurate or had the most touchdown passes in a season, but you got to give the guy a chance at redemption and getting his live back on track. If I was general manager of a pro team who wants to win then you got to give this guy a shot

Training Camp/Rosters Talk

Hi folks,
Isn't the summer tedious without football in session? Well I'm glad training camp is imminent now with 32 teams getting there rosters intact and coaches back in the trenches. NFL coaches are taking a different approach on cleaning up the "cancers" on their respective rosters. We aren't seeing the signings of the Pac-Man Joneses and other players with bad reputations. Chris Henry of the Cincinnati Bengals has kept his nose clean after numerous arrest a couple of years back. We are seeing a different NFL under commissioner Roger Goddell, with stricter rules than his precedessor. You and I and the whole world can't wait until the September 10 for that first Thursday night regular season game.

Michael Vick and NFL Game Rewind

Hey, happy Wednesday to all, this is Adam Vires, host of NFL Chalk Talk.

I'm sitting in the Score On Air Studios and we're talking about Mike Vick's potential suitors in the NFL this upcoming season and honestly, I don't see the former inmate going anywhere this year, and here's why:

1. His potential to return to action right away is unproven. It's been nearly three years since we've seen Vick on the field, and even then it wasn't very impressive.

2. There doesn't appear to be any teams interested. Many if not most of the NFL teams have denied persuing the former star, and as we know one Af2 has already resinded an offer, claiming that making an offer for Vick would be a joke.

3. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell would never allow Vick to re-enter the league. Vick's criminal charges speak for themselves. Goodell believes in good-character players in his league, and obviously Vick is not one of them.

On a more positive note, I recently discovered something that for the most dedicated fans of the NFL is a worthy investment. It's called NFL Game Rewind and is available now on NFL.com
What it is, quite simply, is a database of all the NFL games from last season, playoffs and Pro Bowl included. And for a smooth 20 dollar bill, you can watch every game in High Definition anytime you want. I'm going to go home and relive the AFC Championship Game later tonight.

That's all for today, only 3 months until the Hall of Fame Game!!
